塞缪尔·舒尔茨（Samuel J. Schultz）

本书的主导思想是引领读者自行研读圣经。许多时候，人们研读圣经时只阅读别人的心得，却不肯自己花时间读圣经。本书的目的是要引发读者综览新约经卷，找出各卷的中心思想。为方便读者明白各卷的重点主题，书中列出一些参考资料（如大纲）；但是，这些资料仅供协助读者个人研究，方便大家在遇到艰涩难解的经文时不致兴味索然；最后，读者还要自行研究，不要总是靠赖别人帮助。

本书的另一目的是叫读者明白新约各卷的信息结构。若要全面了解圣经，除了知道神说过什么以外，还须了解他为什么这样说；因此本书采用大量图表，务求将各卷圣经的结构剖析得清清楚楚。

研究圣经重点主题的人，由于不必仔细分析经文，往往忽略应用这一步骤。本书的另一目的就是帮助读者反省，把经文重点主题应用于生活。我们的目的是反省和应用。无论是哪一种研经法，读者都应以此为最终目标。

除此以外，本书又提供其他重要补充材料。以下为本书各章的分段法。

一、读前准备

这是每章的第一部分内容，目的是要读者在综览某卷书前先做好准备。它可以使读者产生研读兴趣，触发他们的学习动机，因此颇为重要。

二、背景

各卷书都是在特定的时空写成，各有不同背景。这一部分就是背景讨论，其中许多资料都不是经文本身所蕴含的。我们会反复提及重要的事项，以加深读者的印象。

三、综览

这是全书的主干，也是最需要下功夫的地方。第二章将详论综览法，提出综览新约各卷的几个步骤。

四、重点主题

综览全卷书以后，就该讨论书中重点主题。学术问题与圣经难题都不属综览范围，因而不在讨论之列；而书中的评论，则可以作为综览后的总结，提供建议以便日后进一步研究之用。
